If you’ve been following the markets during the pandemic, as it seems everyone has, you know it’s been very quiet. Really nothing new happening. Wait a minute, what? Quite the opposite is true. The first quarter of 2021 was full of new and exciting developments.

It seems like there are so many new investment ideas, concepts, and opportunities to keep up with, but is what we’re experiencing really new? In the last few months, we’ve seen millions of new retail investors enter the market. A perfect storm of investors with extra time on their hands, free trading, social platforms for idea sharing, and market information at their fingertips. Couple that with fiscal stimulus and the recipe is good for an active and volatile environment.

I’ve been around long enough to have seen major changes in our industry. From the markets to technology, investment opportunities and access.

Remember when Amazon only sold books? What about Netscape or Napster? Remember when “online” trading was new? Do you remember Stewart from the Ameritrade commercials? Check YouTube for some laughs. Now, let’s light this candle.

One of my favorite things about the financial markets is that there is never a dull moment. Things change rapidly – the markets constantly throw new ideas and opportunities at us. Investors may never have crystal clear visibility or perfect information on which to make investment decisions. That may feel especially true today as we are being bombarded with new things.

But here’s the thing … to experienced investment managers, what we’re seeing today really isn’t anything new. This is the way it’s always been. The names, concepts and technology will change and evolve, but the financial markets as a stage for innovation is nothing new.

BTC Capital Management clients and partners have always turned to us for insight on current market trends. As you can imagine, we’ve had a lot of questions in recent months. It seems we would get started drafting a piece about one, when another would pop up.

So, as you watch all of this unfold, and have questions about the items mentioned, or any yet to come in the future, please don’t hesitate to reach out. At BTC Capital, we are here to be your trusted advisor and to have conversations about how these trends and concepts impact your investment strategy. We have a knowledgeable team, and we follow these topics closely. We understand how to apply them to client portfolios, and which ones to avoid entirely. It is clearly an exciting time for investors, and we appreciate the confidence and trust you have placed in us.

Now to get back to figuring out how to move Bitcoin into my checking account so I can buy a non-fungible token. Invest wisely.
